Burns Treatment
Unit
The department of Plastic, Reconstructive surgery and Burns
offers treatment for victims of burns in a 17 bedded intensive
care unit. The department also caters to all other aspects of
plastic surgery like trauma, hand surgery, reconstruction of
congenital ear deformities, breast reduction and reconstruction,
post- cancer surgery reconstructions especially in the head and
neck and also other general plastic surgical problems. |

The Charles Pinto
Centre for Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery
The Charles Pinto Centre for Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial
Anomalies under the stewardship of Dr. H. S. Adenwalla offers
comprehensive treatment for patients with these deformities.
This is a well recognized referral centre for patients with
Cleft Lip and Palate (primary and secondary treatment), oro-ocular
cleft and syndromic children with craniofacial anomalies. This
internationally renowned centre offers free treatment to cleft
patients with the help of Smile Train, Rotary Club of Dokkum and
Soroptomisten Club. |

Neurosurgery
A state of the art Neurosurgical Department was started at
Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital in January 2002. The
Department is well equipped with all modern neurosurgical
equipments like Carl Zeiss Microscope, Midas rex drill system,
Karl Storz endoscope. Stereotactic brain surgery, Philips ‘C’
arm etc. It has a 23 bedded exclusive Neurosurgical Intensive
care Unit with ICP Monitoring devices, ventilators and vital
parameter monitoring neurosurgery and spinal surgeries are
performed here. Some of our specialities are;
Cerebral aneurysms and other neurovascular surgeries,
Skull base surgeries
Brain tumour surgeries
Trans sphenoidal surgery for pituitary tumours
Endoscopic and stereo tactic surgeries (Keyhole surgery)
Micro Vascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia
Craniofacial and Craniosynostosis surgeries

The department is headed by Dr. N. I. Kurian, a senior
Neurosurgeon from Sri. Chithra Thirunal Institute,
Thiruvananthapuram and Dr. Ramesh S, Neurosurgeon from Medical
College, Thiruvananthapuram. A dedicated team of junior doctors
and staff nurses provide round the clock intensive and emergency
care. |

Obstetrics &
Gynaecology
The department of Obstetrics & is working as 2 units with daily
OP & OT on an alternative basis. The OP timing is from 9 a.m to
5 p.m. The total number of beds are 260 which includes both the
general wards and pay wards.
The department has a well equipped labour room which looks after
all normal labour cases and an intensive section which tackles
all high risk pregnancies and complicated cases. We accept
references from all the surrounding hospitals through out the
day on a 24 hour basis. We have provisions for continuous
electronic fetal monitoring, ultra sound, hand Doppler, painless
labour-epidural analgesia etc.
The large Gynaec section that tackle all major Gynaec surgeries
including gynaec onco surgeries, gynaec plastic, gynaec micro
surgery including tubal recanalisation, surgeries for all types
of urinary and fecal incontinence, abdominal / vaginal
laparoscopic hysterectomies, etc. Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic
surgeries are also being done daily. The infertility unit does
all the basic workup including IUI.
The PG training programme, FOCUS, hosted by the department every
year in the month of August attracts a large number of PH’s O &
G from all over India. The high light of this programme is the
live Case Presentations and separate sessions on examination
related practical topics. |

Anaesthesiology
The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
offers consultation to referring physicians in all areas of anaesthesia and critical care as well as chronic and acute pain
management. There are18 Operation Theatres manned by 10
qualified Anaesthesiologists and a team of trained anaesthesia
technicians. Operation Theatres have the latest anaesthesia
equipments and multi parameter monitoring machines, attached
post operative ICUs providing Ventilatory care. Obstetric, post
operative and palliative analgesia provided. The departments
regularly conducts Anaesthesia Technician Course affiliated to
CMAI. |

General Surgery
It functions as three units. The clinical work includes the
outpatient and impatient care of routine and emergency surgical
patients referred from different parts of the central Kerala.
The outpatient attendance in the OPD ranged from 40,000 to 45,
000 per year. The number of operations per year is around 4000
to 5000 including major and minor procedures. |

Paediatrics
The department started in the year1969. It has 125 beds (Ward &
Rooms) with a well equipped paediatric ICU with facilities for
ventilator care, cardiac monitor and central oxygen supply. The
department also has a separate neonatal ICU served by well
trained senior faculty of Doctors and nurses who imparts utmost
care for babies below 30 days. Procedures like Exchange
Transfusion are also performed. |

Gastroenterology-(Medical/Surgical)
The department has a “State of the Art” Endoscopy suite with
facilities for diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI
Endoscopy, Enteroscopy and ERCP. The department has recently
acquired an Endoscopic Ultrasound System which increases the
diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of the unit. The medical
gastroenterology is headed by Dr. T.K. Joseph, an experienced
endoscopist.
Dedicated gastrointestinal surgical services were started in
2006 under Dr. Sajjan Mathew who had his training form UK and
Australia. The GASTRO surgery Department undertakes cancer
surgery of the oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, small bowel
and colon. Stapling devices are used routinely for sphincter
saving low anterior resections for cancers of the rectum. The
department offers elective and emergency laparoscopic procedures
including Cholecystectomy, antireflux surgery, appendicectomy,
perforation closures and staging laparoscopy for cancer. |

Dermatology
The Dermatology department offers procedures and services both
investigative and curative, pertaining to general dermatology,
cosmetic dermatology and venereology.
Comprehensive consultation and treatment is provided for both
outpatients and in-patients covering all dermatological

Nephrology
The department headed by Dr. A.G. John provides comprehensive
health care for patients with acute and chronic renal diseases
and renal problems due to hypertension, diabetes mellitus stone
infections, hereditary illnesses, etc. It has a 24 hour Dialysis
Unit with 15 haemodialysis is machines. Besides patients with
end stage renal diseases, the department routinely caters to the
patients with acute renal failures following snakebite and
Weil’s disease also. The unit performs 45-60 haemodialysis
sessions per day. The OP department functions on all days and
has patients with renal transplantation who are on follow up. |

Cardiology
Established in the year 1998, the department has more than
thousand outpatients per month. The department has facilities
for Echo Colour Doppler, Tread Mill Test, 24 hour ambulatory
Holter Monitor System, etc. An ICCU of 15 beds with Multi
Parameter / Single Channel Monitors that are connected to the
central station and caters to patients with acute cardiac
difficulties. We are also equipped with the Siemens Ventilator.
Cardio Thoracic Surgery and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory
will be commissioned shortly. |

ENT and Phonosurgery
The department has more than hundred patients per day and 2000
surgeries per year. The department has state-of- the art-
facilities like Video Laryngoscopy with Pentax and Storz
Flexible Laryngoscope with recording, Video Nasal Endoscopy,
Otomicroscopy, Video Stroboscopy, Computerised
Electonystagmography (ENG) etc. Operation Theatres has Carl-Zeiss
Operating Microscope with Video and Recording FACILITY,
Moller-Wiedel Operating. Microsope, Multiple endoscopes for FESS
with Video Monitoring, Diode Laser, etc. |

Radiodiagnosis
The Medical Imaging Centre at Jubilee Mission is well equipped
to support the clinical departments in diagnosis as well as
treatment with an array of new high performance equipments.
Besides Conventional X-ray Machines, our facilities include
Magnetic Resonance Image Scanner (MRI), Multi-slice CT Scanner,
Radio Fluroscopy (IITV), Barium, IVU, Angiography, Follicular
Studies, Colour Doppler, High- Resolution Ultrasound Scanner,
Mammography, Orthopantomography (OPG), Dental X-ray, Portable
X-rays, etc. |

The department is well equipped with Spiro Meter, Pluse Oxymetry
and facilities for chest physiotherapy to undertake the
prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of various

departments in preoperative evaluation as well as in critical
care services to seriously ill patients. |

Paediatric Surgery
The surgical division exclusively dedicated to the surgical
problems of children was started in May 2005. The department
functions in close association with the department of
Peadiatrics and Neonatology. All the common as well as complex

care of a Neonatal ICU is available to take round the clock care
of sick and critical neonates. |
