INTRODUCTION

Bio medical engineering wing is a team of engineering professionals working in a clinical environment to resolve technology issues related to patient care, improvement in outcomes and cost effectiveness.The Biomedical Section is very busy, with a professional team of support staff, handling on a monthly average close to 450 breakdown work requests, 300 preventive maintenance requests, in addition to commissioning of new equipment received on a regular basis.

PURPOSE

The appropriate and safe operation of clinical equipment is paramount to the proper functioning of any healthcare facility. The Biomedical Engineering service is responsible for testing, repairing, and maintaining in proper and safe operating condition, the hospitals diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Major functions of Biomedical Engineering are to,

  • Perform installations, preventive and corrective maintenance, and special request service on clinical equipment owned, and / or used within the hospital in compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide pre-purchase evaluations of new technology and equipment.
  • Assist clinical departments with service contract analysis, negotiations and management.
  • Provide coordination of clinical equipment installations including planning, scheduling and oversight.
  • Conduct device incident investigations.
  • Educating by taking regular classes to Nurses, other allied, healthcare proffessionals and creating awareness on norms etc.
OBJECTIVES

The selection of new equipment for the hospital is done in coordination with the concerned clinical departments and end-users after arranging meetings with them and providing clinical suggestions where feasible.

The Head of Section, from time to time, is also involved in evaluating candidates sent for training from various sources. Keeping in view the importance of patient care, one biomedical technician is posted on a shift system in the department 24 hours round the clock, including on weekends and public holidays, for providing biomedical equipment support to the end user departments.

TIMINGS
